Sicilian Rolls (Guastelle)

|1 cup water|
1/4 cup oil
2 tbs. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
|1/4 cup water|
3 cups sifted flour
1 pkg. dried or compressed yeast
|Heat 1 cup water, add oil, sugar and salt. Cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup water (lukewarm) and add to cooled mixture. Blend in 1 egg. Gradually add 3 cups sifted flour. Do not knead.|
Shape dough on floured board into rolls, using any shape desired. Place rolls on greased pan or cookie sheet and let rise in a warm place till doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
Bake in 375 degrees oven 15-20 minutes. Cool on rack. 15 rolls.
