4 1/2 tbsp. shortening 4 1/2 tbsp. flour 1/2 tsp. salt Few grains pepper 1 1/2 cups milk | 3 doz. oysters 3/4 cup oyster liquid 1 cup grated cheese 3 cups soft crumbs, buttered |

Instructions: |
Make white sauce of shortening, and flour, salt and pepper. Heat oysters in oyster liquid just until the edges begin to curl; combine with the white sauce. Pour into a shallow pan. Sprinkle with grated cheese and crumbs. Bake in a slow, 325 degrees oven, about 20 minutes, or until the crumbs are a delicate brown. |
