| Ingredients: | |
| 1/2 lb. cut dates 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup water 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup shortening (can use 1/2 butter) 2 beaten eggs | 1 tsp. soda in .... 3 tbs. hot water 2 cups cups flour 1/2 cup chopped nuts 1/2 tsp. salt 1 pkg. (7 oz.) orange candy or gum drops |
| Instructions: | |
| Combine and cook 10 minutes: dates, 2 tbs. flour, 1/2 cup sugar, and water. Cream together: brown sugar, shortening, eggs, soda, 1 3/4 cups flour, chopped nuts, and salt. Spread half of the cake batter in a 9 x 13 greased and floured cake pan. Spread date mixture over this. On top of this sprinkle: orange sliced candy or gum drops (sliced fine). Spread other half of the cake batter over this. Bake at 325 degrees for 35 minutes. Cool and cut into squares and roll in powdered sugar. | |
