Bran Muffins 4

6 cups all bran
2 cups boiling water
3 cups sugar less 3 tbs.
1 cup shortening
4 eggs
1 quart buttermilk
5 cups flour
5 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt

Fold in water and 2 cups bran mix and set aside. Mix together the sugar, shortening, eggs, buttermilk, and 4 cups of bran. Mix and add to the above flour, soda and salt. Add nuts and fruit if desired.

Bake 15-18 minutes at 400 degrees. Mix keeps in plastic bowls covered in refrigerator for 6 weeks. Dip out and use as wanted.
