Split Pea Soup 2

|2 cups split peas|
4-5 cups water or vegetable stock
2-3 stalks celery
1 large onion
1/2 tsp. pepper
salt to taste (optional)
Wash peas. Chop carrots, onion, and celery. Bring all ingredients to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer one hour.
