Spread day-old bread with softened butter or margarine and cut into small cubes. Spread out in a shallow baking pan; bake in a slow oven (325 degrees) until golden brown, stirring occasionally.

Or saute unbuttered cubes in a small amount of butter or margine, turning frequently to brown evenly.
